Dear 4C Families,

We have a busy week this week and I want to let you about our upcoming academic assessments.

Our second science test in Meteorology will be on Tuesday. There will be a math assessment on Thursday. It will cover what they have been learning about decimals. We finish Wizard of Oz this week. We will have an in-class essay as the final assessment for the book on Friday. On Thursday, we will complete a pre-writing for the essay and they will take it home to refine for homework. There is an AZ history test on Friday.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me via email.

Sincerely,

Mr. Leonard

Dear 4C Families,

Academics this week:

We will be continuing in Wizard of Oz. In meteorology, we will finish up with tornadoes and hurricanes and the students will receive the next study guide. In AZ history, we begin European exploration and the coming of the Spaniards. We will begin dividing decimals in math.

In addition, we will have a spelling test on Friday. Because we did not have school on Monday it will only have 20 words.

Students should continue to practice memorizing The Violet by Jane Taylor. They received a copy earlier in the month but if they have lost it copies are readily available on the internet. Recitations will begin next week. Fortunately, The Violet is much shorter than Paul Revere's Ride.

Thank you,

Mr. Leonard

Dear 4C Families,

Our field trip is this Friday. We will be leaving the school at 8:15 so please have your student at school by 7:50 so we don't have to rush. They are to wear their school uniform. Make sure your child brings in a bag lunch because we will be eating lunch at a park near the museum. Please check the payment portal under field trip to see if you have paid. I cannot check this, so if you have any questions about it, please contact the office.

Remember next Monday, the 20th, is Presidents' Day and there is no school.

Also we do not celebrate Valentine's Day, so please do not send any candy or cards to school with your child. The opera will perform for us on that day.

Academics this week:

Tests in Wizard of Oz on Tuesday and AZ history on Thursday. They already have the Wizard of Oz study guide and will receive their AZ history study guide today. We will still have our spelling test on Friday.

In science, we will study thunderstorms and tornadoes. We will learn to multiply decimals in math.

Thank you,

Mr. Leonard

Dear 4C Families,

This week we have our Field Day on Thursday and an early release on Friday, which is also Great Hearts Day.

Hot lunch will not be served on Field Day, the students will be eating in class and having an academic contest from information that they have learned so far this year. Our class will represent Thebes during the day and our color is Black. So please have your student wear a black shirt, if possible. We could also use a couple of volunteers to go around with our class and help with water and other things that might arise. We can use some donations of water bottles and fruit (cuties, apple slices etc.) for snacks. Please let me know if you can help in any of these things

The school is also asking for more volunteers to help with the running of field day.
Here's the link if you would like to help: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084fada62ca2f85-athletic1

Please see my post from last week about Great Hearts Day and Valentine's Day.

Friday the 17th will be our field trip to the MIM (Musical Instrument Museum). I believe we are still looking for 3 chaperones so please let me know if you are interested. Please check the payment portal under field trip to see if you have paid. I cannot check this, so if you have any questions about it, please contact the office.

There will be no school on Monday, February 20 in celebration of Presidents' Day.

Academics this week:
We will be reading Chapters 14 and 15 in Wizard of Oz and working on the study guide for the next test (which will be the next week).

In history, we will study the ancient Arizonans and continue working in our lap book.

In science, we will watch demonstrations on heat transference and study air masses and weather fronts.

We continue with decimals in math.

Thank you and have a great week!

Mr. Leonard
