Dear Parents,

Regarding the week of August 22nd-August 2nd

This week will have a quiz on Mountains. This will take place on Friday. Students will take their study guides home and study from this.

In addition, this week we are having our first Spalding Quiz. It will be 30 words and 10 phonograms. Please review phonograms every week. Students will bring home 10 words each night, which they will copy down three times with markings on lined paper (Wide Rule preferably). Please follow the directions on the homework sheet. This will be marked in their agendas as Spalding 3x. On Thursday Night, they will copy down all 30 words once. It will appear in their agendas as Spalding 1x.

Thank you and have a wonderful week.

Cheers,

Mr. Leonard

Dear Families of 4C,

I was very impressed with your students in our first full week. I can tell this is going to be an exceptional year.

This week, students will have an assessment on maps in history. Please have them review their study guides and other materials. The quiz is on Tuesday. It is a relatively short quiz, and thus will have a lower impact on their grade as the semester goes on.

In Math, 4th grade will have an assessment on Thursday based on the materials they've learned thus far. We recommend studying a couple nights before.

Thank you for everyone getting your student a copy of Pollyanna. We will continue to read it for the foreseeable future.

We will begin our unit on Geology in science this week.

That is all. Thank you,

Mr. Leonard

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Archway Lincoln and the Fourth Grade! It is going to be an amazing year.

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joseph Leonard and this is my second year working at Archway Lincoln. Prior to my arrival at Archway, I obtained a B.A. in Liberal Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Go Irish! During my undergraduate studies I immersed myself in the Great Books, while also volunteering at John Adam’s High School in South Bend, Indiana, working with at-risk youth. It was through this experience that I decided to pursue a career in early education at an institution that serves the entire student. I loved my first year of teaching and am excited to come back to Lincoln and to continue to grow as a teacher.

Each student is unique, and will require guidance and instruction according to their personal needs. I look forward to being a small step in the educational journey that your student is about to embark on at Archway Lincoln. It will be challenging, fruitful, and an enjoyable experience for all. Our journey through fractions, Robin Hood, The Revolutionary War, and meteorology, will make your student a better learner, and a well-rounded individual.

In addition to our curriculum-related subjects, we will also be learning and upholding the nine core virtues of Great Hearts schools. These virtues encourage students to be more than just intellectual beings; they instill each individual the ability to act with integrity, humility, honesty, bravery, and all characteristics that mark a virtues person. I write with confidence that the 4C classroom will be a close community, where students will feel comfortable and safe to pursue their intellectual endeavors in a manner that services all.

·      If you have decided not to send your students to Archway Lincoln for the coming school year, please contact Rachel Minde, our office manager, immediately at: Rminde@archwaylincoln.org so your student can be withdrawn from the roles.

I look forward to working closely with you as we gather together to instill a love for learning in each student, while encouraging them to seek the truth, the beauty, and the goodness that surrounds us in our everyday life. Feel free to email me at jleonard@archwaylincoln.org if you have any questions or comments. I thank you in advance for your support in making this a fantastic year for everyone involved.

Very Truly,

Joseph Leonard
