Dear Parents,

Quick Update on the Week:

History: We will have a quiz on Thursday related to Spanish in the Southwest, Territorial Days, and Arizona Statehood. Students will be encouraged to use their history notes for studying, and making flash cards about the Spanish explorers and settlers in the Southwest.

English Language Arts: Our first Poetry test will be this Friday, and students will need to memorize one of the poems from their packets and be able to analyze it to some extent. Expectations will be set this week.

Math: Math test next week Tuesday on adding and subtracting decimals.

In Other News:

Athletic Field Day is coming March 10th! The Archway students will compete in a half day of ancient Greek and modern-day Olympic themed events such as baton relay races, shot put and more! Students will be creating ancient Greek cuffs to wear during their competitions. Please send toilet paper and paper towel rolls to school for them to prepare and decorate in Art class.
We are looking for 15-20 volunteers to help organize and facilitate the athletic events. The day will be split up into two parts with grades K-2 participating in the morning followed by grades 3-5 participating in the afternoon. Volunteers will receive early communication regarding the events and need to be available for a walk-through 30-45 minutes prior to the event. Please follow this link to sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084fada62ca2f85-athletic. Please email Coach Cook with any questions: dcook@archwaylincoln.org. Thank you for your support!

Thank you and hope everyone has a great week!

Dear Parents,

Your students have decided to take their Prince Caspian test on Thursday, for chapters 9-15, and their math test on Friday, over unit 6. Study Guides will be sent home today.

Spalding this week will only have 20 words.

Reminder that Friday is Great Hearts Day and that it is also a half day.

"At Archway Lincoln, we will not celebrate Valentine's Day as it is traditionally celebrated in schools, but will instead celebrate Great Hearts Day on Friday, February 12th.  Each class will have a short celebration, the focus of which will be on the virtue of Friendship and kind-heartedness, not gifts and candy.

We ask the classroom liaisons, in conjunction with the teachers, to plan classroom parties during which the students will enjoy activities that recognize what it means to be a good friend. Our hope is that each child is celebrated for the ways in which he or she demonstrates Friendship in the classroom and community.

Please remember that students are not to bring in any Valentine's cards or treats for their classmates. In each classroom, students will have opportunities to show appreciation for their friends during the party. If any student brings in Valentines or candy, we will need to put them in the backpack to be returned home.

Thank you for your consideration of this special day and the establishment of traditions here at Archway Lincoln!"

Dear Parents,

This week the students have a history test and a science test before mid quarter reports. Students already have all their required history notes on locations in Arizona, animals, and plants native to Arizona. The test will be on Thursday.

In science they will receive their review packet on Tuesday and we will begin reviewing until our test on Friday.

Spalding quiz on Friday as well.

Thank you for your assistance,

Mr. Leonard
